Option 1: forward the QR image from the app
PhonePe lets you save or share your own payment QR from inside the app. Open it, find the screen showing your QR or payment address, and use the save or share action. Then attach that image in the WhatsApp chat.
It works for a one off request. The saved image carries app branding, is sized for a screen rather than a chat card, and can look rough after WhatsApp compresses it.
Option 2: build a clean payment card from your UPI ID
A PhonePe UPI ID is an ordinary UPI address. Enter it above and you get a QR that every UPI app can pay, laid out as a card that reads well in a chat. The payment route is unchanged. The money still reaches the same account.
- Find your UPI ID in the PhonePe app under your profile or payment settings. PhonePe handles commonly end in
@ybl,@ibl, or@axl. - Enter your name and that UPI ID above.
- Add an amount only if every recipient of this card should pay the same figure.
- Select Create QR code, then Share on WhatsApp.
On supported phones the share action opens your WhatsApp share sheet with the card attached. Elsewhere the card downloads first and WhatsApp opens with a short message, so you attach the saved image yourself.
Why the handle looks unfamiliar
A UPI ID ending in @ybl or @axl is the bank handle behind your PhonePe account, not a typo. It is a valid UPI address and any app can pay it. Customers occasionally ask about this, and pointing at the bank handle is usually enough to settle it.
Check it before you send it widely
Ask someone to scan the card and send ₹1. Confirm the name their app shows before payment is yours, and that the money arrives. A single wrong character in a UPI ID makes a QR that looks normal and pays a stranger.
If someone sends a QR to you instead, check who that QR pays before transferring.
