GST invoice generator

GST invoice with a UPI QR on it

Fill in the details, download a PDF invoice with a scannable payment QR near the total. The CGST, SGST, and IGST split is worked out from your GSTIN and the place of supply, which is the part most small invoices get wrong.

Your details

Nothing is uploaded
The first two digits set your state, which decides CGST and SGST against IGST.

You keep your own numbering. Nothing is stored here, so nothing is counted for you.

This tool formats an invoice from what you type. It is not tax advice and does not guarantee statutory compliance. Have a chartered accountant confirm your format before you rely on it. The QR it places on the invoice is a UPI payment QR. It is not the signed e-invoice IRN QR that larger taxpayers are required to carry, which can only be issued through the government portal.

Private, with no account

Every invoicing service worth using puts this behind a signup, then keeps your customer list. This page does not. The invoice is assembled and the PDF built inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and there is no account to create.

The trade is real and worth stating plainly: because nothing is stored, nothing is remembered. Your invoice numbers are not counted for you, past invoices are not kept, and customer details are not saved for next time. You keep your own records. For a business issuing a handful of invoices a month, that is usually a fair swap. For one issuing hundreds, proper accounting software earns its fee.

The CGST, SGST, and IGST split

This is the single most common error on small business invoices, and the rule behind it is simple.

  • If the place of supply is in your own state, the tax splits into equal halves: CGST to the centre, SGST to the state. An 18 percent item becomes 9 percent and 9 percent.
  • If the place of supply is in another state, it is a single IGST line at the full rate.

Your state is read from the first two digits of your GSTIN, so entering it correctly is what makes the rest work. Choose the place of supply explicitly, because it is not always the customer's billing address. For goods, it is normally where they are delivered.

Charging CGST and SGST when IGST was due, or the reverse, means your customer cannot claim the credit cleanly and both of you end up amending returns.

Rates are set per item

GST follows the goods or service, not the business, so one invoice can carry several rates. Set the rate on each line rather than once for the whole document. The standard slabs are 0, 5, 12, 18, and 28 percent. Cess, which applies to a small set of goods such as tobacco and some vehicles, is not handled here.

HSN and SAC codes

The code field is free text. We deliberately do not bundle an HSN database: it is large, it changes, and shipping it would slow the page down for everyone to save a few people a search.

Find your code on a previous invoice from a supplier in the same trade, on the official GST portal's HSN search, or from your accountant. How many digits you must quote depends on your turnover, so check the current threshold rather than assuming.

Rounding

Tax is calculated and rounded per line, the lines are added, and the invoice total is rounded to the nearest rupee with a visible rounding line when it applies. Tools that round only at the very end produce totals that differ by a paisa or two from your customer's accounting system, and those mismatches take longer to resolve than they are worth.

The payment QR is not an e-invoice QR

This matters and it is worth being precise about. The QR placed on your invoice is an ordinary UPI payment QR. Your customer scans it and pays you.

It is not the signed QR that e-invoicing requires. That QR contains an Invoice Reference Number issued by the government's e-invoicing portal, carries a digital signature, and can only be generated there. If your turnover puts you above the e-invoicing threshold, you must raise invoices through the portal or through software connected to it. This page cannot do that, and no offline tool can.

You can offer a fixed amount QR or an open amount one. Open amounts let a customer pay in parts, which is normal for small vendors and avoids a second invoice.

What is deliberately out of scope

e-invoicing and IRN generation, e-way bills, GSTR filing, reverse charge, exports and LUT, the composition scheme, and TDS or TCS. Each needs either government portal access or stored records, and this tool has neither. Invoice numbering, customer records, and saved history are excluded for the same reason.

Fields a tax invoice is expected to carry

The form covers supplier name, address and GSTIN; invoice number and date; customer name, address and GSTIN; place of supply; per line description, HSN or SAC, quantity, unit, rate, taxable value, tax rate and tax amount; the invoice total; the total in words; and a signature block.

A customer GSTIN is left optional because a sale to a consumer does not have one.

Not tax advice

This tool formats an invoice from what you type. It does not check that what you typed is right, and it does not guarantee statutory compliance. Rules change and vary by trade. Have a chartered accountant confirm your format before you rely on it. See also our disclaimer.
